Choosing Your Mileage

Why does mileage matter on a lease?

Every car lease comes with an agreed annual mileage allowance. This is one of the biggest factors in determining your monthly payment — higher mileage means higher cost. But getting it wrong in either direction has consequences.

If you underestimate and exceed your allowance, you'll face excess mileage charges at the end of your contract. These typically range from 5p to 15p per mile and can add up to hundreds or even thousands of pounds. If you overestimate, you'll be paying for miles you never use — wasting money every month.

How does this tool help?

Rather than guessing, this tool asks you simple questions about your actual driving habits — your commute, weekend driving, long trips, and road trips. It calculates your estimated annual mileage, adds a 10% buffer for unplanned journeys, and rounds up to the nearest standard mileage bracket that brokers quote (5,000, 8,000, 10,000, 12,000, 15,000 etc).
